It is surprisingly easy to get to Ullapool, the village closest to Waterfell. The village is approximately one hour’s drive from Inverness and the route is easy to follow as you cross Scotland from the east coast to the west.

Whilst Ullapool is far to the north, the drive is superb and many motoring magazines have nominated the road from Inverness to Ullapool as one of the very best driving roads in the United Kingdom. Ullapool is perfect for bike or car clubs to visit and is of course on the NC500. However, be careful if you are arriving at dawn or dusk because you may be surprised by the number of stags you can encounter on the road between Inverness and Waterfell.

Flying is another option and there are regular flights from London Luton, London Gatwick, London Heathrow, Amsterdam, Belfast, Dublin, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol and many other European destinations into Inverness. EasyJet  have increased the frequency of flights and, by choosing your flight times carefully, you can get some excellent value fares. Car rental facilities are available at the airport and there is also a bus service from Inverness city centre to Ullapool.

For something completely different, why not take the overnight Caledonian sleeper train from London Euston to Inverness.
